Condominiums & Associations

Condominiums are like partnerships in some ways. When the partnership is going well, people tend to get along. When the partnership is faced with a challenge or needs more money invested, things can get troubling. Perhaps a roof is leaking, the parking garage is structurally unsound, or the whole complex needs to be painted. When unforeseen costs arise, owners are frequently hit with an assessment to pay for the repairs.

As a condominium association (or as a member of one) there are rights and duties afforded you under law and also contained in what are known as the condominium documents. Many condominium associations are small and run by volunteers. In areas where a dispute arises with your neighbors or you are asking them to pay for improvements, it can be helpful to have the guidance of counsel in seeking the best practices for proceeding in accordance with the rules and the law. Likewise, it is also beneficial for an owner who has been harmed by an improper act by the Association to seek counsel to rectify or compensate you for the harm caused.

Condominium associations often seek assistance in annual meetings, amendments to bylaws, changes to condominium documents, collection actions, contract disputes, and many other types of matters.
